  1. What is the EMerge Alliance?
    The EMerge Alliance is an open, membership-based, not-for-profit industry association formed in 2008 to create and promote the adoption of new standards for direct current "DC" power distribution within commercial buildings to improve their flexibility and sustainability.

  2. What is the EMerge Alliance Standard?
    The EMerge Alliance Standard is an open power distribution platform for the use of safe low voltage DC power in commercial interiors. Please visit our Standards section for more information. Its completion was announced to the market in October, 2009.

  3. Where is EMerge focused?
    The EMerge Alliance is focused on promoting application of the EMerge Standard in new construction or renovation of the following types of commercial interiors: office, retail, education (particularly higher education), government and healthcare. The Standard and Alliance are focused on applications in the United States and Canada, with plans for expansion to other geographic regions in the future.

  4. How can I obtain a copy of the EMerge Alliance Standard?
    Anyone may download a free Public Overview that provides a look into several areas of the Standard, including an architectural overview.   6. Who is part of the EMerge Alliance?
    Alliance members include a variety of organizations who influence the design, construction and management of commercial facilities from architects, engineers and building owners to product manufacturers and installers. Please visit our list of members for a complete listing.

  7. When can the market expect to see EMerge products and services?
    The Alliance is establishing a third-party Registration and Evaluation program for labeling products based on the Standard. It is expected that EMerge-registered products will enter the marketplace in 2010.

  8. Who should join the EMerge Alliance?
    The EMerge Alliance is representative of the many organizations impacting the commercial building arena, including:
    • Product manufacturers
    • Architects and interior designers
    • Building owners and developers
    • Lighting designers and engineering firms
    • Environmental consultants
    • Utilities
    • Government agencies
    • Related academic and industry groups
    The EMerge Alliance is open to all, with tiered rights and privileges. Representation is given at the organization level with one vote per organization, depending upon membership type.

  9. How can I get involved?
    The EMerge Standard is now available for use by product manufacturers offering a variety of products including, lighting, controls, power converters, ceiling grid, connectors and cabling, security, IT and other common commercial building infrastructure and devices. Work will continue to expand the Standard into new areas and rely upon member support. Specifiers and building owners should also join the Alliance to stay informed of new Alliance initiatives, Standard updates and to demonstrate green industry leadership.
